The title "Kerrang" is a onomatopoeic word for a crash of a symbol/ power chord on guitar. It is also has connotations of darkness, destruction and evil, this is because of the colours they use for the magazine, these mainly include; Black, Grey and Red. Kerrang's masthead has cracks in it which u can be linked to destruction.
Kerrang has a wide target audience, it mainly focuses on teenage audience, but people can often read the magazine to the age of 25. The audience is mainly targeted at males, but is known to be read by many females as well. Kerrang magazine is heavily biased towards the mainstream.
On the cover of Kerrang Magazine there is a picture of someone with a bleeding face, this connotes to the audience that heavy metal is often associated with violence, another image with back this up, is 4 people with balaclava's on, holding axes in their hand, this connotes to the audience that they are aggressive, and want to make a stand about it. Under the picture is says "We're The Anti-My Chemical Romance" this also connotes that they don't like that particular band, and showing their aggression about it with the weapons there using.
The contents page is layed out in a unique style, this is done by, the title of what is on the page, followed by a picture related to the title. this give you a rough outline of who/what is going to be on that page. this is all organized in a specific way. these are like; including pictures in the contents to show this is more interesting news, other news is listed down the side of the page. this is done under headers, so the different pages are ordered under the different sections of the magazine, rather than putting then in page order. The header is done in yellow writing and a black background, this is because this is the most effective, and stands out well.
The picture on the contents page shows a singer, and lots of fans trying to get to him, this connotes the the audience that heavy metal music, can attract lots of fans, this images connotes that that particular band is very popular, as the people are going crazy for him.
In the double page spread it shows the 5 members of the band (DIR EN GREY), these people have been specifically put in certain places, this may be because of the status in the band e.g. main singer, drummer, or it can also be down to how attractive they look. this is set out so the person closest to the front, grabs the readers attension, as the ones further back do not stand out as well. The title across the bottom left of the page, is quite bold, but doesn't stand out allot, this maybe because of the colours kerrang associate with these types of band (dark, gloomy colours). A small section in the bottom right explain a bit about the people and band, this text isn't very large, this maybe layed out like this so it doesn't cover up the band members, and so the audience, isn't attracted to the writing rather than the people. In the middle left we see a short paragraph explaining the band current status, and how it has had a impact on the UK. The writing used, looks like it has been typed up using a typewriter. the designer of the magazine may have chose this font because the band maybe old-fashioned.
